TelSoc post-pandemic telecommunications event on June 21

TelSoc, the telecommunications company, is hosting a free post-pandemic telecommunications event at 12:30 p.m. AEST on Tuesday, June 21. The event is online only and you can find more information and register here.

Please join TelSoc and IEEE ComSoc to hear from Hugh Bradlow on this important and forward-looking topic.

If the COVID-19 pandemic had occurred in 2002 instead of SARS, we would have had a much different experience than ours. Fewer than 16% of Australian homes had broadband, down from 91% today, and video conferencing solutions were expensive and unfriendly.

Fortunately, in 2020 these solutions were available and affordable and telecommunications are now an essential part of everyday life, and businesses cannot function without them.

However, the availability of telecommunications is not evenly distributed across the country with 30% of the population living outside the capitals and often facing major challenges with these services.

At this free event, Hugh will discuss some of these challenges as well as the technological solutions needed to address them – for example, will Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations solve these problems?

Also, is the ACMA doing enough to combat spam and fraudulent calls and texts? This will also be discussed.

Registration is free through Eventbrite. The event will be held via Zoom, with Zoom membership instructions sent to registered attendees just prior to the event.

TelSoc warmly welcomes new members, so please consider registering and paying a modest annual fee to help TelSoc’s program of fostering telecommunications and the digital economy.

Please join our community here and become a VIP.
